Nineteen questions to ask on a venue tour

Print this. The tour is a sales meeting and you are the only one not rehearsed.

Money

  • What is the total for my date, including every mandatory fee?
  • What is the deposit, and what part of it is refundable, and until when?
  • Is there a service charge or admin fee on top, and is it taxed?
  • What does it cost to add an hour at the end?

Time

  • What hours do I actually have the site, and does setup come out of them?
  • When do vendors get access, and can anything be dropped the day before?
  • What time does music have to stop, and is that your rule or the county's?

Logistics

  • How many people fit seated with a dance floor, not standing?
  • How many bathrooms, and are they permanent?
  • Where does catering cook, and is there refrigeration?
  • What is the power supply, and has anyone ever tripped it?
  • Where do guests park, what happens if it rains, and who directs them?
  • Is there step-free access from parking to ceremony to reception?

Risk

  • Show me the rain plan, standing in it.
  • What insurance do I need, and what do my vendors need?
  • What happens if you cancel, or sell the property?
  • Is there another event on site that day or the day before?

People

  • Who from your team is here on the day, and what do they do?
  • Can I talk to two couples who married here last season?

The last one is the most useful and the least asked. A venue that hesitates has told you something.
